Prasad is food first offered to the deity and then shared among devotees. The offering transforms it: what returns is no longer merely food but a token of grace, carrying the blessing of the ritual.
Receiving prasad is a lesson in humility and gratitude — we accept what is given rather than what we choose, and we share it rather than hoard it. Even a single grain is received with both hands and a bowed head.
