Transliteration: Om tryambakam yajamahe sugandhim pushti-vardhanam, urvarukam iva bandhanan mrityor mukshiya ma'mritat.
Meaning: We worship the three-eyed Lord Shiva, fragrant and nourishing all beings. As the ripe cucumber is freed from its stem, may we be freed from death and bondage — but not from immortality.
The Mahamrityunjaya is chanted for recovery from illness and for courage in the face of fear. It asks not to escape life but to be released from what binds us to suffering.
